Francesco “Franco” Urrata

Funeral Services were held in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals for Francesco “Franco” Urrata, who passed away unexpectedly on April 15th. He was 36 years old.

Born in Boston, he was raised in Revere and attended Revere High School. He worked for many years as a laborer with various construction companies in the area. He had a love for building and thrived in the construction business due to his enjoyment and the satisfaction he received from the work he did. Franco had a loving and caring personality and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. As a young father, he took on his new responsibilities with patience and gentleness. He loved his family and always looked up to his father and his mother was his best friend. As a brother, Franco always looked out for his sisters and tried to protect them since he was a young boy. He was also very proud to be named after his beloved Nonno. He enjoyed making people laugh and always had a joke that could bring you to tears of laughter. He will be missed by all who knew him, but the memories of him will live on forever.

He is the devoted father of Alexis, Giuseppe & Victoria. Beloved son of Giuseppe “Joe” Urrata & Cathy C. (Brazil) Urrata of East Kingston, New Hampshire. Dear brother of Stephanie Urrata – Miner & her husband Richard of Everett and Caterina Urrata – Weintraub & her husband David of Waltham. Treasured grandson of Francesco Urrata & the late Lucia Urrata of Revere and the late Gerald & Patricia Brazil of East Boston. He is also lovingly survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

James R. “Jimma” Nelson

James R. “Jimma” Nelson, of Revere, formerly of Wolfeboro, NH, passed away unexpectedly on April 13th, at 68 years.  He is the devoted son of the late Edward C. Nelson, Jr. & Kathryn M. (Barry) Nelson. Beloved brother of Kathryn M. Salt & her husband Pat of Colorado Springs, CO & the late Edward C. “Buddy” Nelson, III. Dear brother-in-law of Janice R. (McDonough) Nelson of Revere. Cherished uncle of Jeff E. Nelson & his wife Eliza of Lynnfield, Jamie K. Nelson & his wife Lauren of Revere, Jennifer L. (Nelson) Ivester & her husband Jake of Wolfeboro, NH, Jonathan J. Nelson & his partner Dr. DaMarcus Bayman of Revere, Ryan Salt & his wife Brittany of Ft. Worth. TX and Brent Salt & his fiancé Stacey Medley of Colorado Springs, CO. He is also lovingly survived by 11 grandnieces, grandnephews, and extended family.    

Jimma was genuine in every intention, and epitomized what it meant to be familial, selfless, caring, and thoughtful.  Rarely was there an instance where someone who met Jimma left without a lifelong friend. He was a permanent and irreplaceable fixture to so many of his close friend’s families through the best and worst of times.  His love of storytelling ranged from youthful adventures with his brother, sister, cousins and friends, to his weekends at the Kennedy Compound, to celebrity getaways in Vegas. To his family, friends, and any person he struck up conversation with – Jimma truly was and always will be an icon and legend of his time.  

Celebrations of Life will be hosted in Revere, MA at Casa Lucia, 61 Lucia Ave., on June 10th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and in Wolfeboro, NH at Marker 21, 33 Dockside St., on June 12th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.

Vincent J. DiModica, Jr.

Family & friends are invited to attend a Memorial Funeral Mass on Friday, April 29th at 11:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St. & Winthrop) Ave. Revere, for Vincent James DiModica, Jr. who died on Sunday, April 10th at his residence in Dorchester following a lifelong illness, he was 88 years old. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Vincent was born on October 27th, 1933 in Revere to his parents V. James DiModica, Sr. & Catherine M. DiModica. He was one of seven children and was loved unconditionally, all throughout his life. Vincent was born “Special” and special he was. He was loving, funny, and simply angelic. His persona was pure and innocent because of his challenges. As he became an older adult, he lived the majority of his life in a group home in Waltham, and for the past five years in Dorchester. Vincent enjoyed going out to eat for any meal for any occasion, he was very social and enjoyed talking to people and making new friends. He is home in heaven, welcomed by the embrace of his parents and brothers, sisters & other family members.

He is the brother of Joseph V. DiModica & his wife Rita A. of Danvers, Edward DiModica & his wife Karen of Seattle, WA, Maryann Kiang & her late husband Dawson of Peabody, John DiModica & his wife Janet of Melrose & the late Philip DiModica & his surviving wife Barbrara of Old Orchard Beach, ME, & M. Jean Franklin & her husband George.  He is the cherished nephew of Mrs. Marie Fallon of Revere & the late Rose Carroll, Celia Kelleher, Frank DiModica, Domenic DiModica, Joan DeStefano, Joseph P. DiModica, Frances E. Dakin & Carmella Doherty. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews & cousins.

Karen F. (Evans) Ross

Family & friends are respectfully invited to attend Visiting Hours on Monday, April 18th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt.107) Revere for Karen F. (Evans) Ross who died on Friday, April 8th at the Melrose – Wakefield Hospital in Melrose following a brief illness, she was 82 years old.  A Funeral Service will be conducted in the Funeral Home at 6:15 pm. Interment will be held privately in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Karen was born & raised in Waterbury, Ct. she was born to Thomas J. & Eva M. (Normand) Evans and was one of five children. She was a proud alumna of Sacred Heart High School Class of 1958, in Waterbury. While on vacation on Cape Cod, Karen met & fell in love with her future husband, John J. “Jack” Ross. The couple, later married on April 11th, 1964. They would have celebrated 58 years of marriage. They settled in Revere where they began their life together and raised their family. Karen was a loving & devoted wife & mother. She took great care of her family and loved them unconditionally. Karen worked for over 25 years at the Shirley Credit Union, later becoming St. Jean’s Credit Union as a Bank teller. While she was at her job, she had the unwanted privilege of being “Held Up’, not once, or twice but four times. Something she often joked about, one time handing the Robber back the note that he misspelled with the corrections. Karen also enjoyed a well-traveled life with her husband and children. They traveled extensively throughout the us and Europe and many other destinations. Of course, anyone who knew Karen, knew that her number one spot was Las Vegas. She truly enjoyed the Casinos’ the shows and made lifelong friends along the way. Karen was all about fun & family, she always made sure that she would stop and see her family in California and Connecticut. Her legacy to her family was to live life with those you love. 

She is the beloved wife of 58 years to John J. “Jack” Ross, Sr. of Revere. the loving mother of John J. Ross, Jr. & wife Kelley of Saugus, & Kerry E. Hayward & her husband Michael of Peabody. She is the cherished grandmother of USAF Master Sergent John J. Ross, III., Tamaryn A. McAlees & her husband USAF Master Sergeant Garett McAlees all of Las Vegas, NV. Meghan E. Ross of AZ., Keira C. Hayward & Alexa E. Hayward both of Peabody, Nathan R. Hayward & Patrick J. Hayward both of Portsmouth, NH. The treasured great grandmother of Jessica, Brennan, Alison, Shea, & Logan. Adored sister of Brian Evans & wife Mary of Prospect, CT and the late Maureen McGrath, Thomas Evans, & Patricia Caruso. Dear sister-in-law of Robert & Mary Wesley & Lawrence & MaryJo King all of Revere. She is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews.

Dorothy F. (Bradley) Sena

Family & friends are respectfully invited to attend Visiting Hours on Monday, April 18th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt.107) Revere for Dorothy F. (Bradley) Sena who died on Friday, April 8th at the Twin Oaks Center in Danvers following a brief illness, she was 87 years old. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Dorothy was born in Chelsea to her late parents, Hugh A. & Rita (O’Brien) Bradley, she was one of nine children. She was educated in Chelsea Schools and at a young age she married her one and only love, Angelo “Junie” Sena, Jr. The couple were married and settled in Revere in 1953. Dorothy was a proud homemaker and loving wife & mother. Later in life when her children were in school, she worked various jobs, in particular Pewter Pot. Dorothy with her husband enjoyed traveling all over the world. Their travels took them to Tahiti, Aruba, Las Vegas and other many destinations. She was also a Keno enthusiast and loved making her casino trips to Foxwoods. She also loved to dress up and dine out. Dorothy enjoyed fashion in very sense of the word. She would always look her very best, no matter where she was going or the occasion. She was independent & in her own home up until very recently. She leaves her family with many wonderful & happy memories.

She is the beloved wife of 55 years to the late Angelo “Junie” Sena, Jr. Loving mother of Pamela J. (Sena) Clapp & husband Robert of North Fort Myers, FL and the late Thomas J. Sena, Sr. & his surviving wife Denise E. (Strianese) Sena of Revere. Cherished grandmother of Alison J. Scali & husband Joseph of Peabody, Jennifer J. Sena of Brockton, Thomas J. Sena Jr. of Revere, Meaghan A. Clapp of Chelsea & Kelly R. Clapp of Kissimmee, FL. She is the adored great grandmother of Joshua, Jordon, Travis, Brynleigh Mae. Dear sister of the late Gerald, William, Hugh, Jr., Herbert, Laurence, Richard, Robert “Dukie” Bradley & Rita Dente.  She is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews.

Mary T. “Sis” (Sullivan) Keegan

Family & friends are respectfully invited to attend Visiting Hours on Tuesday, April 12th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt. 107) REVERE for Mary T. “Sis” (Sullivan) Keegan who died on Friday, April 8th at the Hebrew Senior Life Center in Boston. She was one month shy of her 102nd birthday. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at in the Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.) REVERE at 11:30 a.m., immediately followed by interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.

“Sis” was born in the Mission Hill Section of Boston. She attended Boston Public Schools where she was educated and she was raised in Charlestown. She later married and had one son, Richard F. Keegan. Sis was a devoted mother and worked to support her and her son. She became a secretary at the Boston Naval Shipyard for well over 20 years. She then took another administrative position at the JFK Federal building in Boston, where she retired from. Along the way, Sis lived in Charleston, Weymouth and then later in Revere. She was a woman that was full of energy, fun and love. She lived with her niece Terri & husband Joe and their two boys, TJ & Patrick for about 15 years in Weymouth. Sis was their surrogate grandmother, and she did everything a grandmother would do for her grandsons, and more. After the boys were of age, Sis settled in Revere, closer to her own son and she lived a happy & fun filled life. She was an active member at the Rossetti Senior Center & and was also a member of the Swampscott Cribbage Club. She was still playing cribbage just a week before her passing. Family was always very important to Sis and she enjoyed always being surrounded by her family.

She is the loving & devoted mother of Richard F. Keegan of Revere. Treasured sister of the late John J. Sullivan, Jr., Katherine T. O’Connor, Joseph, Thomas, Patrick, Edward Sullivan & Julie Persico. She is the cherished aunt of many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews.

Jennie Longo

Family & friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Visitation on Monday, April 11th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt.107) Revere for Jennie Longo, who died on Monday, April 4th at the Leonard Florence Center for Living in Chelsea, following a long illness with Alzheimer’s Disease, she was 96 years old. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:15 p.m. in the Funeral Home. Interment will be private.

Jennie was a native to Revere. She was born & raised in Revere to her late parents, Ralph & Jennie (Palomba) Longo. She was one of eight children. She was educated in Revere Schools, and like many families during her era, had to put the family ahead of anything else. Jennie went to work as a young woman. Jennie later met & married her husband, Samuel S. Avola, Jr. The couple remained in Revere where they raised their four children. Jennie was the epitome of “mother”, she worked tirelessly keeping her home & raising her children. She went above & beyond in every aspect to satisfy her family’s needs. When her children became of age, Jennie became a Homemaker, and did what she did best, caring for people who needed help. In 1992, Jennie moved to Saugus where she remained for 8 years before moving to Lynn. Her beautiful face, bright smile and selfless heart warmed anyone she met. She was pure & genuine.  Jennie worked as a homemaker for about 12 years before retiring. Her favorite time was spent with her family. She loved being surrounded by her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren, to her there was no better place to be. To her family she was Mom, Ma, Nana & of course “Sugar”. Her personality would steal the show wherever she went, especially her favorite restaurant, Billy Tse’s in Revere. Jennie was always full of life and eager to make new friends and she always ended up becoming everyone’s favorite.  Jennie was always fiercely independent, until her declining health became more serious. She became a resident at the Leonard Florence Center for Living in Chelsea, and there too she was fondly thought of & loved. Her presence will be greatly missed, but her spirit & memories will shine through all of her family because of the Queen she was.

She is the beloved former wife of the late Samuel S. Avola, Jr. Loving mother of Judy A. Malloch & her late husband Michael G. of Revere, Marie Avola of Topsfield, Janet M. Calcagno & husband Angelo of Saugus & Samuel S.” Sammy” Avola, III & wife Lisa of Salem. Proud & cherished grandmother of 6 grandchildren & 10 great grandchildren. She is the dear sister of Rudolph J. “Rudy” Longo & his late wife Mary of Stratham, NH, Edna Ganzer & her late husband William of St. Paul, MN, Arlene Fuller & her late husband Donald of Billerica, Priscilla “Pat” Macdonald & her late husband Robert of Pickerington, OH and the late Anthony Longo & his wife Evelyn, Robert Longo & his wife Grace and Mary Scholl & her husband Raymond. She is also lovingly survived by her former son-in-law John Tammaro of Topsfield and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews.

Carl A. Botticelli

Funeral Services & Entombment were held privately for Carl A. Botticelli who died on Saturday, March 26th at the Massachusetts General hospital in Boston, following a long cardiac illness, he was 76 years old.

Carl was a native to Chelsea, where he was born & raised. He was educated at St. Rose Elementary School & then later attended Chelsea High School. Following high school, Carl joined the United States National Guard, something he was very proud of. Carl worked various jobs throughout his life. His passion was always his music. He was very talented whether it was singing, playing the drums and writing songs. His favorite part of his career was performing especially with his acapella group. They would perform all over the North Shore. Carl was working for Butler Express Services at Boston’s Logan Airport, where he was fueling aircrafts. He did this for many years, until his health declined due to his cardiac decompensation. While Carl was retired, he still dabbled with his music which gave him a great deal of pleasure & satisfaction, but his faith was also a very important part of his life. He would attend mass regularly and it provided him with solace. Carl was a gentle soul, who loved his family & friends.

He is the beloved son of the late Andrew J. Sr.  & Antonetta (Caputo) Botticelli. Loving & cherished brother of Andrew J. Botticelli, Jr. of Reading, Andrea C. Gomez & husband Richard of Londonderry, NH, Debra Chiaradonna of Peabody, Martin N. Botticelli & wife Jayne of Salem, Sandra D. Botticelli of Medford & Joseph A. Botticelli & his partner Richard “Rick” Cristo of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews.

Robert M. Downing

Family & friends are kindly invited to attend Visiting Hours on Tuesday, April 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Noon) in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107) Revere for Robert M. Downing, who died on Thursday, March 31st at the CHA – Everett Hospital following a brief illness, he just celebrated his 89th birthday on March 5th.  A Funeral Service will be conducted at 12:15 pm in the Funeral Home followed by interment & Military Honors in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Robert was born & raised in Chelsea to his parents the late Raymond & Lillian M. (Lewis) Downing. He was educated in Chelsea schools and was an alumnus of Chelsea High School, Class of 1951. Shortly after high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953 after proudly serving his country. When he returned home from his service, he later met & married his wife, Theresa (Blundo). The couple moved to East Boston, where they raised their family. He took great pride as a husband & father to provide for his family. He worked for over 32 years as a Union Painter, District Council 35 in Boston. Throughout his career, he worked diligently as he worked in the newest buildings in the City of Boston. Robert was also a member of the American Legion Post #0462. Robert also enjoyed showcasing his talents by singing Karaoke at some of the local spots & family events and playing cards with his friends.

He is the beloved husband of 64 years to Theresa (Blundo) Downing of East Boston. Loving father of Richard Downing & his wife Monica of Brentwood, NH & Lynn M. Downing of East Boston. Cherished grandfather of Nicholas A. Downing of Dover, NH & Alexandra Downing of Portland, ME. Dear brother of Patricia Wierbowicz & her late husband Philip of Peabody, James Downing & wife Suzanne of Pelham, NH, Carolyn Butt & husband H. Alan of Revere, Richard Downing & wife Joanne of Woburn & the late Barbara Teodorczyk & husband Charles, the late Kathryn Ciulla & husband Leo & the late Donald Downing. James “Jamie” Delmonte

Family & friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Friday, April 1st from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt. 107) Revere for James “Jamie” Delmonte who died on Thursday, March 24th at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston following a very long illness, he was 66 years old.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 2nd at St. Monica Parish, 212 Lawrence St., Methuen at 11:00 a.m. Please meet directly at church. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.

Jamie was born & raised in Everett. He was the son of Primo & Helen (Tenerelli) Delmonte. He was educated in Everett Public Schools and was an alumnus of Everett High School, Class of 1973. He began a career in the trades as a carpenter working with his brother, Paul at his company Del’s Home Improvements. He worked there for several years, before taking a Salesman position at Steven’s Auto Sales. Jamie was much happier working with his hands, and he took a position as a carpenter with the M.D.C. which later became DCR. His career spanned 32 years and he retired as a supervisor in 2018.  During this time, Jamie’s most important aspect of his life began when he married his wife, Paula Lentini, on November 17, 1979. The couple remained in Everett later moving to Methuen. Jamie and his wife raised their two sons there. He was very active in youth sports and coached all his son’s teams for many years. He also enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod at their summer home. There, he would spend his time with his family on their boat and enjoying water activities with his boys. Anyone who knew Jamie, knew that he was intrinsically mechanically inclined, and he could build or fix anything. He always felt better when he fixed something, knowing it was done properly. Jamie also, like many of us, was a “Devoted Boston Sports Fan”, whenever he watched a game, he was invested until the very end, living & dying with every win or loss.  Jamie was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus of Methuen, Council #4027. Over the past 10 years, Jamie’s health declined, little by little, but he enjoyed the love and support from his loving & caring family who were always by his side along the way.

He is the devoted & cherished husband of Paula A. Lentini – Delmonte of Methuen. Loving & proud father of Michael J. Delmonte & his companion Stephanie Cannon & Matthew P. Delmonte & his fiancée Jamie Raccosta, all of Methuen. He is the dear brother of Don W. Delmonte & his wife Angela & Paul S. Delmonte & his wife Karen, all of Cape Coral, FL. Treasured brother-in-law of Margaret M. Lentini – Cook of Atkinson, NH & her late husband Terry Cook. He is also lovingly survived by his former sister-in-law Diane Walker of Quincy & the late Linda Delmonte & many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, & grandnephews.

We would like to announce that after 37 years of caring for thousands of families at our 773 Broadway location, on January 31st, 2023 we will be officially RELOCATING, to our new location at 262 Beach St., Revere.
On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
